A walk around town

A couple weeks ago, I messaged my buddy Tyler to see if he would want to join me on a trip to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. The day was approaching and after watching the weather closely the last few days, I decided to postpone the trip as it looked like the weather had moved up… as usual, the weather turned out to be just fine. Instead, we decided to meet up for some coffee and explore Oklahoma City with our cameras.

I brought along my Olympus E-PL8 paired with the M.Zuiko 14-42mm EZ pancake lens. This camera and lens combo can fit in my pocket and I’m not talking about JNCO jeans pockets from the 90’s. Despite its ancient age in tech years and 4/3 sensor, it is still capable of producing beautiful images.

One of the things I love about doing street photography is it’s ever-changing There are always details you discover regardless of how many times you’ve walked the same path, as long as you’re observant. Also, different times of the year and different times of day, you’ll see those different details in a new light.

The last time I walked around Scissortail park, the bridge was closed and who knows how long it’s been open since. Also, it was my first time to walk around the area south of I-40.

Over the last several years, Oklahoma City has been doing a lot of work downtown and it’s paying off for our public spaces. Temp wise, it was in the 40’s and a little breezy but that did stop a bunch of people from getting out.

Though right across the street were several abandoned buildings, one of which was set ablaze sometime in the last year or so. At least there was a reminder to smile.

When Tyler and I made it to the end of the park, we decided to turn around as our cars were two miles away at this point. We saw a couple of guys deploying a rather large kite so we hung around for a few minutes to take some photos.

On our way back to the cars, we stopped at Spark for a burger and pink fries. Still not sure about that sauce.

All in all, it was a solid walk around town and it’s always a good time when I meet up with Tyler.
